Description
The nowadays out of print compilation album ‘Rare Diamonds’ is a nice overview of the legendary Doro Pesch's career with the band Warlock as well as her solo material. There were a few queens of metal, Lita Ford in the States, Lee Aaron in Canada but in Europe there were one above most others and that was Doro. She is probably best known for the Warlock anthems ‘All We Are’ and ‘I Rule the Ruins’ (which is mysteriously absent from this collection). Although the album is labeled as a Doro and Warlock album, much of the album comes from Warlock. Only Unholy Love (written by KISS Gene Simmons), a remake of A Whiter Shade of Pale (and a great version it is!), and a live version of Rare Diamonds are the Doro only songs, the rest are with Warlock. Album also includes You Hurt My Soul which was only available previously on Warlock maxi-ep. Sprinkled throughout are 2-3 songs off each of the 4 Warlock albums and are predominately ballads and not the heavier stuff. Rare Diamonds gives a pretty good mix of what Warlock was about, and Beyond the Trees (1 of Doro's all-time favorites) is there and the hard to find You Hurt My Soul track is icing on the cake. ‘Rare Diamonds’ is a great way to experience Doro's aggressive yet beautiful music.
