The final recordings by one of metal’s most original and emotional voices: Warrel Dane (Sanctuary and Nevermore vocalist). On December 13th, 2017, Warrel Dane passed away in Sao Paulo while recording the follow-up to 2008’s Praises To The War Machine. Shadow Work was supposed to be an 80 minutes long opus and while all instruments had been recorded, Warrel passed away before completing all vocal tracks. In essence, a tribute release, Shadow Work contains 41 minutes of music with Warrel’s vocals tracked during pre-production and the actual recording sessions. The album’s booklet was completed with Travis Smith providing artwork based upon concepts he had previously discussed with Warrel as well as thorough reconstructions of all lyrics from Warrel’s notebook, testimonies by his Brazilian band, and several photos. Musically, it offers heavy and technical metal tracks (Madame Satan, Disconnection System), the anthemic As Fast As The Others, a moving ballad called Rain, and the 9 minutes grand finale Mother Is The Word For God.
