Clear vinyl with one side featuring a holographic picture

Yes Warrior’s debut album, Fighting For The Earth may be about small green men but it doesn’t really matter when the music is this great. The band was formed in 1982 in Los Angeles and took a leather-clad sci-fi futuristic armour inspired style befitting their name. On the base of some solid traditional riffage, Warrior pumps energy and power throughout the entire record, which is further enhanced with very classy vocals of Perry McCarty, powerful and somewhat gritty. The title song sets the standard from the very start. The gritty voice is mixed with the high-pitched all along the pumping riffs and drums. Those high-pitched screams are some of the best of its sort, classy indeed. The riffs sound like two guitarists duelling, which adds a suggestive side to it, even in the slow part, with the unnecessary, sick, scrabbled vocals. The keyboards are there too, creating a background atmosphere – but only at times. Very tasteful. The 80’s bands knew better how to use this kind of instruments. The space-theme is mirrored both in lyrics and music. At one point of Only the Strong Survive they play with volumes and channels, producing with their guitars, a sound like if a fast, low-altitude space ship flew right over one’s head. If you missed out on the complete Fighting For The Earth album in 1985 then you missed out on one of the strongest 80s metal albums of that year. It looks like many did and the rock press, convinced they were being sold an industry-hyped act, treated them with disdain. In 1986 the band split leaving the members to join other acts (McCarty joined Steve Stevens Atomic Playboys, while Turgon found himself a job with Shadow King). This limited 12″ single came much suited as a futuristic holographic clear disc. In 1985 this was such a cool item even though both tracks are featured here in the album versions
