Four bands from four decades and four different countries. That was the line-up for the 2015 Hard Rock Session festival at the Foire Aux Vins Dalsace in Colmar, France. The line-up where W.A.S.P., Ensiferum, Accept and Sabaton. This album captures Wasp from that night. The band were out on their The Bloody Road To Golgotha Tour and the show started with sirens and helicopter noise before a medley of their own classics playing in the background and then the show kicks off with On Your Knees/The Torture Never Stops. An interesting combination of short versions of the two songs sets a high-energy pace right from the start. Singer Blackie Lawless – sporting a Raiders-inspired outfit that also seems to belong to a bygone era – gives the fans a brief greeting, then it’s straight on to old-school heavy metal. The Real Me and L.O.V.E. Machine follow before the first big hit: Wild Child. The crowd in the amphitheater-style stands really starts to erupt, and some fans are even thrown to their feet. The acoustics are fantastic, and colorful spotlights bathe the Americans in the perfect light. The Idol is followed by the next banger, I Wanna Be Somebody. During the instrumental interlude, the entire hall spontaneously sings along to the chorus – only to be divided in two by Blackie, with each half now competing with the other in volume. It’s okay that quite a bit of time passes here, as the atmosphere in the seated area reaches its absolute peak. Their is also a mosh pit in front of the stage and a lot of headbanging. A contrast to the fans that are their to see Sabaton. A collition between two generations of metal fans. Then comes the ominous sound of chainsaws that introduces the story of Chainsaw Charlie: Murders In The Rue Morgue. Rocking, melodic, fast – W.A.S.P. pull out all the stops once again! Finally, Blind in Texas follows as one last highlight. The track is 30 years old, combines classic heavy metal with rock n roll elements – and thus really gets the crowd going. A fitting end to a great show, which is rightly celebrated by the audience.
