Weedeater was born the mid-’90s, in Wilmington, NC, originally taking shape as a side project of vocalist/bassist Dixie Dave Collins, who was otherwise engaged with sludge metal cult favourites Buzzov*en at the time. However, upon that band’s official demise in 1998, Collins was free to concentrate his efforts on Weedeater, which released a sludgecore album to kick off the new millennium: 2001’s And Justice for Y’All, produced by stoner specialist Billy Anderson. And Justice For Y’All is packed with impossibly thick, bong resin-coated riffs and groove-heavy southern swagger. With its dense layers of swampy, southern sludge, it comes as no surprise that the band is founded by Dixie. Like any good stoner metal record, …And Justice for Y’all delivers plenty of hazy jams for listeners to get lost in, proving once again that when it comes to sludgy metal, nobody does it quite as well as the south.
