Wicked Maraya began to take form in early 1983 in Valley Stream, Long Island, under the name Mystic and was formed by three brothers: John, Micheal and James Iadevaio. John would play bass, Michael on guitar, and James provided the backbeat. Eventually, vocalist Lou Falco would join the trio to complete the ine-up. The band won a local competition and got a chance to release a demo. They opened up for several local Long Island bands and went through several line-up changes. In 1991 the band got a record deal but the label wanted the band to change name. So Mystic became Wicked Maraya and the recorded their debut album, Lifetime In Hell, with death metal producer Scott Burns in Tampa Flrodia. However the band and their label dissagreed and the album got shelved. In November of 1992 a demo was recorded with legendary Jim Morris as producer and a new record deal finally came from the Belgium label Mausoleum Records, which was opening an office in New York. The band and Jim Morris flew to Germany and recorded the album Cycles under the guidance of Morris who have worked with acts such as Savatage, Crimson Glory and Iced Earth and who shook of some of the bands thrash roots for a more mature and moody effort. When the band finally got their “debut” album out it was 1994 and they really never got the chance to receive any success. Several magazines gave the band high praises for their music and the label tried their best and got the band out on tour with acts such as Metal Church, Cyclone Temple, Dee Sniders Widowmaker and Yngwie J Malmsteen. However grunge was the big thing and nobody really wanted to listen to old school heavy metal anymore. This is a big shame as this band put out music with high quality
