Wulkanaz style in many ways seems quite orthodox, in comparison to all the black metal that comes before it, with its raw and treble-focused production, its thematic reliance on Germanic / European heathenism, and its stark and ancient feeling black and white imagery that accompanies each release. Wulkanaz are often pegged as a strange entity or eccentric but really he’s working within the confines of black metal culture to create his own very unique identity. Overall its an incredible black metal album that shows an underlying creative artistry that runs through every track with an almost punk twist. This music does what black metal is supposed to do by conjuring a bleak alien cold not of this earth atmosphere. Dirty, violent and craspec we really find the aura of Scandinavian black coming from the depths, without seeking aesthetics or embellishment! Harsh for fans of Arckanum, Ildjarn and Wod.
