Description

Japanese double album in thick jewel case

Highway Star features the final date of the 1986 Japanense tour accompanying Malmsteens third album Trilogy. It took place at the Osaka Festival Hall on November 14th and features the guitar playing of a young Yngwie and vocals by Jeff Scott Soto, who sings powerfully and with a very stable voice throughout the entire album, Mark Boals had just been fired and Malmsteen asked Soto to come in to finish the rest of the tour. The keyboards and drums are played by the Johansson brothers, formerly of Silver Mountain, and the bass is played by Wally Voss on this gig. The ideal selection of songs selected from the first three albums is a pleasure to listen to anywhere, and as mentioned above, the sound quality is incredibly excellent, so you can listen to it all at once. Yngwie’s guitar playing is truly magnificent, including his expressive high-speed solos, and the members who support him also perform at a superb level, making it a pleasure to listen to throughout the entire album. Since Deep Purple recorded their classic Live In Japan album at the same venue in 1972, Malmsteen wanted to perform a cover of Highway Star. Its a fast and blistering version performed at the end of the encore. A perfect disc from the 1986 tour
