Description
In 2002, guitar acrobatic extraordinaire Yngwie Malmsteen was aboard an airplane in Japan and received the surprise of his life. As folklore goes, Malmsteen allegedly made offensive comments regarding homosexuality. A fellow passenger took offense to the comment and proceeded to throw a glass of water on Malmsteen. This sent his temper into a rising force and began a legendary tirade that catapulted Malmsteen back into the heavy metal spotlight for one last time. Amid the fracas Malmsteen launched a verbal spat on the passenger with the phrase ‘you've unleashed the f*cking fury’ being atop the most quotable of moments. Fast forward three years and Malmsteens thirteenth studio album hits the shelves with the quote as the title. ‘Unleash The Fury’ isn’t that different from any other earlier Malmsteen album. No one can deny Malmsteen's skills on the guitar as he runs up and down the guitar neck something that even the most accomplished guitarist would find troubling at half-speed. Neoclassical themes are carried throughout the whole album, and tracks such as Crown of Thorns (a Ship of Fools style track) and Fuguetta the short-sweet Malmsteen-esque classical guitar solo. The oddball track for this album once again nails the job of one of the best tracks in there. The Bogeyman, which was said to have 'A Riff That Just Wont Quit' lived up to this quote perfectly, the rough, oily bassline could be played for hours. However the let down on this album is the vocalist Doogie White (Rainbow, Cornerstone, Balance Of Power, Tank and Praying Mantis). His appearance feels awkward and irksome but I guess most people anyway buy this album just to hear Yngwie make the guitar melt in the palm of his hand. Track listing: 1. Lock & Loaded 2.
