Kiss your loved ones goodbye and burn the bridges to your old life. No one can join you now … no one but this very special band from Norway, who have been delivering the soundtrack to your very own apocalypse ever since they started playing in 1999. More than once, the symphony of your self-destruction has come from Zeromancer. Now, they are finally back with a sound more intense, more stricken, and more determined than ever. Its cynical, sleek, tongue-in-cheek but always entertaining, Zeromancer belong in some perennial nightclub scene from the crammed prose of one of Bruce Sterling or William Gibson s cyberpunk sagas. The opening track, Auf Wiedersehen Boy, gives a little early industrial keys mixed with catchy 80s elements and dark rock to form the perfect introduction. The title song Bye-Bye Borderline is something fans of their Eurotrash album would really enjoy and LCYD has some of my favorite vocals from them ever while creeping in that slight 80s element along with some very fluid guitar work. Lace and Armour stands out as one of their best harder-rocking songs while Montreal is simply beautiful. The keys and melodies in Maneuvers reminded me of some of their songs on their Clone Your Lover album. Weakness is one of my favorites and even has a slight Cure-element of guitars with wonderful vocals and electronics. Ash Wednesday is a song I’d play for anyone who hasn’t heard this band before because it really shows off what they can do in dark rock with classic industrial sounds and almost every type of singing they use. You Meet People Twice sounds a lot like it could’ve come from their Death of Romance album. Tortured Artist is a graceful, artistic song that some might’ve been longing for since their Zzyzx album. Basically, if you like ANY of their other albums, get this one. And if you haven’t heard any of their albums before, this is the best place to start. Zeromancer has been a very consistently excellent and talented band. Their mix of rock and industrial and electronic is in top form here. The album works as one amazing piece that showcases their abilities.
