Description

Anyone into pure old school metal should move to Sweden. The last years over here we have been flooded with retro acts such as Steelwing, Enforcer, Air Raid, Dead Lord, Graveyard, Bullet to name just a few. It seems like the list of Swedish high quality heavy metal acts doesn’t have an end. Another act that will blow your mind if you like tracks that has a sweeping chord structure is Rocka Rollas from Sandviken. Rocka Rollas released their debut album ‘The War Of Steel’ in November of 2011 and followed it up with this EP a year later. The ‘Conquer’ EP starts off with a lovely Running Wild riff and their sound can easily be compared to just Running Wild, Kai Hansen-era Helloween and even early Blind Guardian. Joe Liszt vocals are a throaty delivery that fits the music so well. All four tracks are a journey down the memory lane when this type of heavy metal was built around speedy riffs instead of double bass drumming and blast-beats. I was raised on metal like this and Rocka Rollas really brings back several memories from the late 80s when Running Wild, King Diamond, Judas Priest where played at each party and when you in your youth drank more alcohol than you could handle. Already into the second playing of this EP I find myself singing along to ‘Riding The Metal Storm’. Maybe I should gather a few friends, play this disc and wake up tomorrow with a sore throat, a hurting neck, a bad hangover and realize that I have puked all over my shoes. To me Rocka Rollas is as real as it gets and it just sounds so damn great. All I can do is bow and say Thank you Cederick and Joe this really made my day. I will go back to this several times and hopefully twenty years down the road I will go back to this and share as much memories as I do with ‘Walls Of Jericho’, ‘Abigail’, ‘Under Jolly Roger’ to name a few Track listing: 1. Bloodbath 2. Conquer 3. Riding The Metal Storm 4. Steelwheeler
